Normally one of the most popular paddles of the year for all ages and this year was no different. Unfortunately the weather didn’t play ball and after much deliberation we had to cancel the Saturday trip and reschedule it to the Sunday due to lightning forecast. The Sunday forecast, though soggy, wasn’t much better and as a result of the change a number of members could no longer make it.
We all set out (11 No.) on a very wet, torrential drive Sunday morning but as we arrived at Chirk the rain stopped, the sun came out and everything brightened up. Amazing.
Having offloaded all the boats and gear and completed the car shuttle we finally got on the water to enjoy a quiet and leisurely paddle. The tunnels were as dark and spooky as ever, the viaducts amazing to paddle across, what views. We had a lovely packed lunch in the sunshine and finally ended up at the pub in Trevor Basin for a well-deserved drink.
Despite the forecast. What a lovely days paddling again.
