We enjoyed a fantastic weekend getaway at Gwersyllfa Pant yr Onnen Lakeside Campsite, nestled on the picturesque shores of Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake). We camped there on Friday and Saturday nights, soaking in the stunning lakeside views and making the most of the beautiful Welsh outdoors either side of a great paddle up and back down the lake.

Friday Evening: Campfires & Slacklining
As the sun dipped behind the hills on Friday evening, we gathered around a lakeside bonfire, where we roasted marshmallows, shared stories, and relaxed after setting up our tents. One of our adventurous members brought along a slackline, and many of us gave it a go – with varying degrees of wobbly success!
Saturday: East Shore Paddle & Polly the Parrot
Saturday morning saw us launching our boats for a paddle up the east side of the lake. With a mixture of calm and windy conditions and great company, we journeyed northwards to the Bala Adventure and Watersports Centre, where we paused for a well-earned lunch and ice cream.
To everyone’s delight, we discovered a parrot named Polly in a nearby tree – quite the surprise and an amusing highlight of the day!
After lunch, we made our way back down the lake’s east shore to the campsite. Some paddlers stayed out on the water for more fun, including a bit of swimming and jumping in, while others relaxed back on dry land.
Saturday Night: Fireside Fun Again
Another bonfire rounded off the day, with more marshmallows, laughter, and a peaceful night under canvas. The warmth of the fire and good company made for a perfect end to our trip.
Thanks to everyone who joined us – here’s to more adventures on and off the water! 🚣♀️🔥🏕️
