Bala – July 2021

A bit of an experiment this trip. A day trip to Llyn Tegid (Bala Lake) geared towards our younger and less experienced paddlers. The slowly shelving beach and shallow waters around the shore make it very safe for children and adults alike to get the feel of a kayak or SUP and develop their skills.

The weather forecast was atrocious and if not for the stalwart response from the Stishova’s and the Mee’s when I questioned the viability of the trip I would have cancelled.

Thank goodness I didn’t! Although not glorious sunshine the weather and the water were warm and having set up camp around 10:00 am on the shore we had a short, taster paddle up the lake and back before everyone, members and family alike, got stuck in and paddled and played and experimented with various boats off the beach. Some even rented SUP’s from the shop / café and everyone had a great time.

Pack lunches or snacks from the café were enjoyed and as the weather closed in, about 15:00 pm, we packed up and headed home via the Rhug Estate for a Bison Burger on the way.

Think we will do this one again.
